DARwin (Client/Server DARS)
In DARwin (the client/server
version of DARS), Miami has developed a complete support system for
the DARS program operating in a UNIX or NT server environment. DARS
information is maintained in a relational database by a Windows-based
client application. Audit requests are made through the Client Application,
World Wide Web forms, or through the CAS
web-based, student transfer advising system. Below are a few DARwin
highlights:
Server:
- Operates in multiple Unix
environments (AIX, HP-UX, Solaris) as well as Windows NT/2000
- Provides the ability to
run multiple audits simultaneously
- Provides option to format
output for the Web
- Localizes all the code
necessary to connect to an institution's host student information
system through a tightly integrated API procedure
Client:
- Runs on 32-bit Windows operating systems.
- Includes drop-down lists,
radio buttons, drag-and-drop functionality, tree views, on-line help,
and other user interface features to ease the development of degree
audit rules.
- Provides for native connections
to Oracle, DB2 and MS SQL Server.
Database:
- Uses a normalized relational
database design.
- Works with Oracle, DB2, and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Provides conversion programs
so current DARS mainframe clients can easily migrate to DARwin.
